Riyadh Double Murder Suspect’s Body Found

RIYADH, 1 July 2004 — The body of the Filipino suspect involved in the attempted rape and murder of two Pakistani women at the heavily-fortified Seder Village residential compound was found here Tuesday.

The suspect was named as Don David Prado, 45, according to the Philippine Embassy quoting from the police investigation. The man, who had been at large since June 24 after committing the double murder and fleeing the upmarket residential complex, is believed to have taken his own life.

Pakistani Ambassador Abdul Aziz Mirza told Arab News yesterday that “the preliminary identification done by police with the help of Seder Village employees and friends of the victim’s family has established that the body recovered from a deserted area of the capital was that of the Filipino suspect.”

“But,” the ambassador added, “the final reports about the identity of the suspect is still awaited.”

“The police have informed that the suspect killed himself and to my understanding, the police have also told the Philippine Embassy about the recovery of the body of the suspect.” the ambassador said.

The decomposing body of the Filipino suspect was found inside a car in Al-Rawdah district of the capital city.

Asked about the recovery of the body, Philippine Ambassador Bahnarim Guinomla said: “I have asked my embassy staff to go to Shomaysi Hospital and check the body.”

Guinomla refused to comment more due to the sensitivity of the ongoing police investigation.

Pervez Junejo, Community Welfare Attache at the Pakistan Embassy, said the police investigations may be wrapped up once it is established that the suspect was the real culprit in the murder of Amina Abdullah, 28, and her mother-in-law, Amina Nuzhat Usman, 55.

“The bodies of the murdered women are being flown to Karachi on board a Saudia flight tonight,” said Junejo.

Junejo said he had not seen the autopsy reports of the two women when asked about the details of the findings of the medical examination. The funeral prayer for the two women was held at Rabwa Mosque and was attended by Ambassador Mirza and Junejo.

The bodies of the two women were found with multiple stab wounds. The motive behind the killing was apparently not terror related nor burglary as nothing was taken from the house.

Earlier, police found the getaway car and a blood stained shirt. Amina Abdullah, whose husband was away at the time of the attack, was five months pregnant. Atif Usman, an engineer at a local firm, is still severely traumatized by the killings.

Sources close to the Usman family said the killings have shattered all the dreams of Atif, who married his college friend Amina only a year ago. Both of them were American green card holders and were planning to settle down soon in the United States.

Seder Village compound, where the murder took place, is located off Khurais Road, north of Exit 30. It contains some 280 villas surrounding a recreation and pool complex.
