RIYADH: The Japanese government is offering scholarships to Arab students in Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Syria.
Applications have opened for the Japanese Government Scholarship Program for higher studies in Japan for 2019.
The Japanese Embassy in Riyadh said the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in Japan will be offering scholarships to distinguished international students who wish to study at Japanese universities.
In addition to Saudis, the embassy will also be accepting applications from Yemeni and Syrian nationals for research programs this year.
Applicants from countries other than those three, Yemen and Syria should apply through the Japanese embassies in their respective home countries.
Three types of scholarship programs will be offered: Undergraduate studies, specialized training college studies, and postgraduate and research scholarships.
Detailed guidelines and application forms are available at the embassy’s homepage: http://www.ksa.emb-japan.go.jp/scholarships.htm.
The deadline for applications is June 14, 2018.
Applicants will be selected based on their submitted documents, followed by a written examination and interview — either in English or Japanese — at the Japanese Embassy in Riyadh.
Under the banner of Japan-Saudi Vision 2030, both countries have strengthened their partnership in the field of education.
The Embassy of Japan expressed deep appreciation to former and current Saudi students in Japan who have contributed significantly to bilateral ties between the countries and cooperation in diverse fields.
