RIYADH: In a show of brilliant cricketing, Pakistan International School Naseriya (PISN), Middle East International School (MEIS) and Pakistan International School English Section (PISES) crushed their opponents in the ongoing Arab News Inter-School Cricket tournament sponsored by Arab News and organized by Riyadh Cricket Association (RCA).
The matches are being played at RCA Ground in Sulay District of the capital city. The ground wore a colorful look as families of players and supporters of the participating teams swarmed the arena in big numbers, which is indicative of the fact that the event is evoking great enthusiasm and big response in Riyadh.
RCA, on the other hand, is also making all efforts to provide a good environment for this competitive event. At RCA Ground-2, in the under-19 age group, Pakistan International School (Sulemania) got the better of American International School by 127 runs.
Batting first, Pakistani boys lost two wickets of Osama and Faisal, but their opener Salman and middle order batsman Hamza got involved in a big partnership of 92 runs to lend some stability. Salman played a superb knock of 59 runs which included 9 fours. Hamza made a fine 55. The PISES team made 170 runs in their allotted 20 over. A Zaidi did his best for the Amerian School taking two wickets.
Facing a daunting task for victory, the American International School made a disastrous start losing 3 early wickets, which they never recovered from and were bowled out for a mere 54 runs as none of their bastmen stayed long at the crease.
For PIS Sulemania Owais and Uzair took two wickets each. Salman was declared Man of the Match.
At RCA Ground 4, in the under-15 age group, Pakistan International School (Naseriya) trounced Sri Lankan International School by 7 wickets. The Sri Lankan School boys took first strike and piled up a total of 170 runs. Rakhita Mendis made a superb 40 runs, while Manoj (30 runs), Sahan (22) and Haziq (22) gave him good support.
Chasing 170 runs PISN were given a flying start by Shiraz Shafiq and Wajid Rahman. Both added 90 runs for the first wicket, Shiraz in particular played an aggressive knock of 76 runs while Wajid made 36 runs, after their fall Abdul Waheed made a quick fire unbeaten 42 runs. PISN reached the target of 171 runs losing only 3 wickets. Shiraz Shafiq also took 4 wickets. He was named Man of the Match for his brilliant all-round performance.
At RCA ground 5, in under-15 group, a brilliant unbeaten 96 by Waleed of Middle East International School (MEIS) took his team to a convincing win over Delhi Public School (DPS).
Batting first, MEIS boys got to a good start as their openers Adnan and Hisham batted well Adnan made 33 runs while Hisham made 17 runs but both of them fell in quick succession. After their departure MEIS lost 5 more wickets for only 92 runs.
Young Waleed coming in at No. 8 then tore apart the DPS bowling by his big hitting, he made a scintillating 96 runs which included 14 fours and 2 big sixes, he was unlucky to miss a well deserve ton. MEIS reached 191 runs in their allotted 20 overs.
For DPS, Shahbaz bowled well to pick up two wickets while Shoaib, Martin and Ameen took one a piece. DPS in their chase was given a good start by their openers Farhan and Shoaib.
Both of them played sensibly and were involved in 56 runs partnership. Shoaib made 29 runs while Farhan made 27 runs. After their departure none of the other batsmen offered some resistance except Martin with 22 runs.
Finally the DPS innings folded at 135 runs. For MEIS Waleed completed a splendid all-round performance by taking 3 wickets while Ahmed Saleem bowled exceptionally well to take 4 wickets. Waleed was adjudged Man of the Match for his all round performance.
