JEDDAH: The Cabinet on Monday lauded the positive and fruitful talks carried out between Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and US President Barack Obama, said Minister of Water and Electricity and acting Minister of Culture and Information Eng. Abdullah bin Abdulrahman Al-Husain in a statement following the session.
Cabinet members also appreciated the joint statement that followed the talks between the two leaders which focused on the continuation of deepening bilateral relations, remarks made by President Obama over the Kingdom’s role in the Arab and Islamic worlds, and the importance of intensifying efforts in preserving the security and stability of the region, Al-Qasabi said.
The Cabinet also appreciated the address made by the king at the US-Saudi Investment Forum on laying down a comprehensive framework for a strategic partnership between the two countries for decades to come. At the same forum, the king referred to the Kingdom’s plans to enhance sustainable and balanced development and boost its economy to attract both local and foreign investments. The Cabinet also lauded the King’s assurance on his commitment and continuous quest to improve the investment environment in the Kingdom, he said.
The Vice Custodian of the Two Mosques Prince Mohammed bin Naif briefed the Cabinet on the outcome of his talks with Yemeni President Abed-Rabbo Mansour Hadi who appreciated the Kingdom’s long-standing stance toward Yemen.
At the local level, the Cabinet expressed thanks to the security bodies and the Customs Department on tracking and thwarting attempts to smuggle drugs into the Kingdom, and arresting those involved in drug trafficking.
Later, the Cabinet passed a series of decisions where it authorized the Minister of Finance, or whomever he authorizes, to sign a draft agreement between the Kingdom and Gabon to avoid dual taxation and ban tax evasion.
The Cabinet approved the organization of Saudi Contractors Authority and authorized the Minister of Commerce to form the board of directors from members concerned with the contracting industry.
The Cabinet authorized the Minster of Telecom and IT, or whomever he authorizes, to conduct talks with Serbia in the area of telecom and IT.
The Cabinet approved a memorandum of understanding between the Saudi and Jordanian governments on work areas.
In other issues, the Cabinet approved the re-formation of the board of directors of the Agricultural Development Fund for three years to be headed by the Minister of Agriculture. It also approved the establishment of a national program for the development of the fishery sector.
