RIYADH: Saudi businessman and entrepreneur Majed Abdhulmohsen Al-Hokair, vice chairman of Al-Hokair Group, has been appointed Denmark’s honorary consul general in Jeddah by Danish Queen Margrethe II.
The announcement was made by Denmark’s Ambassador Ole Frijs-Madsen on the occasion of his country’s National Day.
Al-Hokair “will take up his new position as of June 1, and there will be an official opening of the Consulate General office in Jeddah later this year,” Frijs-Madsen said on Saturday.
Al-Hokair said: “It is an honor and privilege to be given an opportunity to represent Denmark in Jeddah.”
At National Day celebrations on Thursday, Frijs-Madsen spoke of growing Saudi-Danish relations, and said the National Day themes this year are “innovation and being green.”
He explained: “There are two reasons for this. First of all, we want to underline that Denmark is a world leader in innovation and sustainable green solutions… Another reason for choosing these themes is that Vision 2030 is exactly about that: Developing Saudi Arabia into a more innovative and green society.”
Frijs-Madsen said he appreciates the way Saudi society is undergoing change. “First of all, we have seen still more Saudi women take up key positions in society,” he said.
The second area of development is the opening of the entertainment and cultural space in the Kingdom, he added.
“It has been a pleasure to not only attend these exciting events as a guest, but also to see how young Saudi men and women are enjoying these moments of recreation and enlightenment outside their daily obligations.”
